Germany: Berlin

The capital – Die Hauptstadt We arrived in Berlin via Flixbus and used public transportation to get to a friend´s apartment. He hosted us for four days and helped us with orientation and everything else we needed (Thanks Effe!). We visited the usual tourist highlights as the East Side Gallery, Alexanderplatz, the TV Tower and the Brandenburg Gate. In addition, of course, we checked out the Berlin Cathedral, the Reichstag and Checkpoint Charlie. In general, the German capital is a magnet for tourists. Germany: Dresden

A beautiful old-town The state capital of Saxony offers an incomparable, history drenched old town, housing the Frauenkirche, the Zwinger, the Semperoper and countless other buildings. The city ranks number 4 in Germany’s most visited tourist cities and has 10 million visitors annually. We spent most of our time in the historic city center and had the rare opportunity to see the Semperoper from the inside. Germany: Leipzig

Share a ride via App We arrived in Leipzig via BlaBlaCar. This App/ Website is used by travelers to get cheap and easily from town to town. People list vacant car seats for trips to other cities. For a (compared to bus and train) cheap price you reserve a ride, agree on a pickup location and a drop-off destination, pay electronically and that´s it. All you´ve got do is to wait at the agreed meeting point. It´s a simple, yet wonderful system to travel between the bigger cities. Germany: Bayreuth

An afternoon in Bayreuth After our visit to Nuremberg we set off to our accommodation for the night in Bayreuth. Unfortunately, we only had a few hours to explore the city, but gained a very good first impression. Regrettably, the castle and the other famous sights were already closed. So, we spent our time strolling through the old town, eating Bratwurst and watching pigeons. We only shot a few pictures that do not capture the beauty of the town. Germany: Nuremberg

Why Germany? As a marketing campaign, Tes and I went on a tour through Germany in autumn 2017. We were planning to visit a total of thirteen cities, all of them are described in short blog posts. Morocco: Roadtrip to the Sahara – Merzouga

A guided trip – better than expected! To get from Fez to Marrakech, we did some research: Going by train or bus along the coast to the south was too time-consuming and renting a car and driving was too expensive. So, we decided to book a guided tour to Marrakech. Morocco: Meknes – Fes

Meknes Once again we took the bus to get to our destination. Then we took a a taxi to the medina in Meknes. In the old town, we found our hotel by chance: As we were talking on the street, we said name of the hotel coincidentally out loud and at the exact moment the owner passed by us. Otherwise, the search would have taken a long time. The old town in Meknes is very nested and there are hardly any signs for orientation. Why London? Starting at the end of January to the middle of March 2017 Theresa and I lived in beautiful London. Unfortunately, the relationship with our common employer went downhill and drove us back home. Eversince, we’ve been travelling. Romania: Hunedoara

Hunedoara – a castle from a fairy tale After an hour’s drive, we reached our last planned destination on our tour through Romania: Hunedoara. The German name “Eisenmarkt” (roughly: steel market) derives from the fact, that Romania´s second largest iron works were located in the 60.000 people industrial city. As we drove through town, we could not find any particularities at first glance and therefore only visited the landmark: Castelul Corvinilor (Hunedoara Castle). Romania: Bran – Transfagarasan – Sibiu

Castle Bran… We drove about 45 minutes from Brasov to Castle Bran. The building is advertised as Dracula’s castle to tourists. The truth is, however, that Vlad Tepes never set foot in the old walls. Only a description of Bram Stoker in his novel “Dracula” fits its appearance, while the real home of Dracula is the castle of Poenari (allegedly!). Romania: Sighișoara – Cetatea Rupea – Brașov

Sighișoara – Draculas flair After arriving in Sighișoara in the evening, we put our luggage in our room and went on a discovery tour. The small city has almost 30,000 inhabitants and the city center is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Strolling through the narrow, paved streets is definitely enough to fall in love with the city. Especially at dusk, the town gives away a flair of Dracula and can creep you out easily. It is said that Vlad Tepes (actually Vlad III Draculea) was born in this city.
